Restored316 has been a big part of The Gingham Apron’s journey. We had begun writing our book and had started a very homespun website when we saw your contest. I entered the contest, prayed for God’s will to be done, and you chose us! The way that you made our message and site so beautiful truly opened up the door for a publisher to consider our manuscript, and now our dream of a book is coming to fruition. All this to say, we are so thankful to you and to R316, and we consider you a partner in getting a book about the beauty of God’s love out into the world.

    Embroidery Mend on Cashmere Sweater

I scored this J. Crew cashmere sweater at a Goodwill Outlet (where the unsold Goodwill items go to die). It has a light stain on the bottom, so I decided to embroider a flower over it. I got this sample pack of water-soluble embroidery patterns from Elizabeth Galbraith (of MCreativeJ) at Quilt Market. She’s so…

It seemed unlikely that an adult Japanese immigrant, in Hawaii, would choose such…

    Cat Scratch Quilt

I’m working on Cat Scratch by Art East Quilting Co. I used Adobe Illustrator to color it with Moda Grunge fabric. I want to create some kits for the shop. So far I’ve made the yellow and orange blocks. I’m going to be so good at 1/4″ seams after this! It’s my first Stitch &…

My name is Marie and I like making things when I'm not busy momming and working as bean counter at a quilt shop. My background is accounting, so I love spreadsheets and any software that allows me to make things just so, like Adobe Illustrator. I'm currently trying to work my way through all the quilt techniques (hand applique, curved piecing, collage, etc.). I love the precision and control of making things by hand, but I also have 3 sewing machines (older Vikings), a serger, and a longarm. I also love thrifting and mending, with my oldest daughter.
